Choosing a name without taking the wee-wee

Choosing a name without taking the wee-weeHow do you choose a nice name for a cancer support group with a strong focus on urine?

When I’m not smacking the desktop keyboard coming up with pearls of writing wisdom, I’m doing voluntary work with and for cancer patients and their carers in leafy Milton Keynes, middle England.

Recently we launched a support group for bladder cancer patients (I have had it too) and was delighted when about 18 people showed up, all keen to share their experiences, fears, ongoing worries and other things comfortable in the knowledge that everyone in the room was in the same boat.

And now for a name…

This is where things get a bit tricky. While making arrangements for the next meeting, I sought the advice of a friend of mine who runs a support group for breast cancer patients.

“Simple,” she beamed. Just think of a clever pun or play on words that’s relevant to the cancer concerned.”

She went on to list examples:

Bosom Pals

Bosom Buddies

Breast Friends

Keeping Abreast

Great, I thought. All I have to do is come up with some similar for, er, urine? Maybe that’s a trifle harder, assuming we’re not of a mind to be vulgar or offensive. Here are my initial thoughts…

Taking The P*ss

To Pee Or Not To Pee

There’s No Pee In Team

Pee Pals

P*ssing Pals

Piddling Buddies

The Wee-Wees

The Micturition Mission (but only the health professionals use that term)

The Urination Station

Wee-Wee Central

You can see where I’m going with this, can’t you…

How about something slightly more abstract?

Let’s unleash our inner poets for a moment…

Yellow Fellows

Yellow Fellowship

Yellow Streamers

Stream Dreamers

Golden Rainers

Stream Screamers

Golden Grinners

Don’t know about you, but I’m not inspired yet.

Competition, anyone?

Tell you what – I’ll award a free eCopy of my book, “How To Write Brilliant Business Blogs,” to the best idea for a name for our bladder cancer support group. And we’ll toast you in tea and cookies at our next meeting…

Over to you!
