When I first started HTWB, foolishly I thought once I had written an “evergreen” post about one particular topic I should not write any more about it. Evergreen? Boring. Who wants to read about a topic more than once, especially as its correctness lasts a long time? (That’s why it’s “evergreen.”)

You may think you should only write once about any sub-topic within your area of expertise, but the likelihood is that most of your readers want more. The topic rides a roller coaster, it seems with highs when the digital marketing scene is relatively quiet, and lows when the latest new social media toy-toy emerges to beat it in straight sets. But like many good veteran players, blogging for business isn’t gotten rid of that easily.

Some blogging “gurus” circle you like turkey vultures…

Have you noticed the hordes of “gurus” swirling on the internet trying to persuade you (or in one or two cases, bully, patronize and embarrass you) into believing that blogging is an atom-splitting science?

Then, they circle you like turkey vultures, scaring you into believing that you can’t possibly manage on your own. Because they come across as so knowledgeable and expert, you feel intimidated about asking some basic questions … and you will very rarely get the basic answers you want.

I’m on my way back tonight!

Suzan St Maur is on her way back to London from Toronto

Tonight I will be spending 6 hours 30 minutes or so in an Air Canada Boeing en route to London Heathrow from Toronto.

I’ve had an amazing trip, learned a lot, laughed a lot,

eaten and drunk far too much …

I’m bringing back a stack of new ideas for great articles,

discussions and much more about writing of all kinds.
