What can you blog about? Health and safety
Once again this may not be relevant depending on what you do, but health and safety usually present good business blog ideas if you’re doing business with companies (B2B) or within consumer markets (B2C) particularly where your customers have children, animals, etc.
Health and safety for business
In the UK at least, health and safety issues have become something of a joke due to certain pieces of legislation taking on ludicrous effects in real life, and more seriously when employees hide behind H&S regulations to the extent that others can die, as was seen recently in England. Two paramedics did a “risk assessment” where a man was drowning in a ditch and they decided it was too risky to go in and haul him out to save him, so instead they waited for back-up.
A bit later a policeman arrived, quickly stripped off his outer clothes and dived in helped by two passers-by and pulled the drowning man out. However by this time the man was too far gone and was declared DOA when the paramedics finally took him to the hospital.
Check out all new legislation and set up Google Alerts (free and worth their weight in gold) for health and safety updates in your industry or business area. When an update arrives, read through the jargon and post your interpretation of how it will affect your readers/customers. They will be glad of the heads-up and also of your thoughtfulness in translating the directives into plain English.
Health and safety for families
It seems a very long time since I wrote “The Home Safety Book” but many people have since said that I should drag it out and update it as it was very popular.
If your business has any connection with the home, gardening, families, pets, medical and/or complementary treatments, etc., the occasional blog post about safety will be welcomed by your readers/customers.
To get you thinking along those lines, here is the list of chapters (copied by hand from my one remaining copy of that book!)
Although you don’t want to come across as a pessimistic worrier, sharing health and safety tips with both business and consumer readers/customers is certainly worth addressing once a month or so. Good luck with it!
