Yep – I’ve done it. Made my first million. Are you impressed? Good – but don’t expect me to buy everyone a champagne dinner to celebrate. Sadly, it’s not pounds, dollars, euros, or other currency. All the same it’s quite nice…
It’s a million page views of this small, niche blogsite since it started from scratch two and a half years ago.
Compared with the big bruiser sites of course a million page views is something they achieve in a matter of a few months, rather than about 30, but considering that here on HTWB we’re a small ship in a big sea, it’s an achievement I’m kinda proud of.
Many, many thanks to Babs Saul – our techie supremo – plus columnists Lynn Tulip, Lucy McCarraher, Jackson Rawlings, as well as a number of guest writers who have all helped to make this site what it is.
And despite the fact that sadly we have become estranged in recent times, I nonetheless thank Sarah Arrow for believing in me and persuading me to start this site in the first place with her initial sponsorship.
Now, enough with the Oscar speeches already…
Much as I want the site to keep on growing – it averages about 1,200 visits and up to 2,000 reads/page views per day now – we need to keep focused on what we’re all about: writing. Although I do indulge in a little rant about other stuff now and again, writing is what we do, and writing is what we’ll keep on doing.
You probably have noticed that I’m focusing hard on blog writing now. Why? Because so many people I speak to have all the technical and functional help they need to start and run blogs of their own. BUT … and it’s a big but…
…Once all that’s in place, people often wonder “OK, now I’ve got all the toy-toys … but what the hell do I blog about?”
If that sounds like you, check out this category on here.
Please let me know what else you would like us to cover – either by sending in a question within the Agony Columns section, or by contacting me direct (check out the sidebar to the right to help you do this.)
If you want to share your thoughts about this site and writing generally, please visit the HTWB Facebook page, and/or the Writing: How To Write Better Google Plus community. And of course, please comment on stuff in here so we know what you like or don’t like!
And if you’d really like to see me make a million, well, er, pennies, anyway …
While you’re here, don’t forget to stop by my Bookshop…books and eBooks to help you write better – and to give to friends and family (don’t forget the Holiday Season is coming soon)…
Congratulations! And to celebrate we must have some bubbly – I will raise a glass of lemonade in your honour 🙂
Thank you Angelika. Actually it happened at around 4:00 p.m. Sunday so I celebrated with a cup of tea!
Congratulations – raising a glass of virtual bubbly to you from this end! Glad to have stumbled on your site from UBC – will be checking out some of your writing tips for my own work…

Thanks so much, Jane – hopefully the next million won’t take so long as we’re doing about 2,000 page views a day now. Let’s see *grabs calculator* … about a year assuming a little more growth…!!
